In 2004, I had 18 months in a spotlight I didn’t truly choose. What followed were twenty years of struggling with an identity I didn’t desire, didn’t recognise, and that made me deeply uncomfortable. It was a name that was weaponised by an industry I can only describe as the Epstein class.
By reclaiming my grandfather’s name—August Tilt of Saaremaa, Estonia—I am giving the name Brookstein back to my family and starting with a clean slate. This is a personal and spiritual move for me; a quiet departure from a past career to find some contentment - something I have considered for a number of years.
There are no expectations here, and no promises. This is simply the evolution of a voice reborn.
I’ll be sharing the journey of my new project, Bridge to Philly, along with the music that has always been my foundation—the grit of Teddy Pendergrass, the silk of Al Green, and the class of Luther Vandross and The Spinners.
It takes me back to a time before I lost who I was, and wherever this leads me, the song remains the truth.
Whether it’s a new recording I am releasing or a “close up and personal” session in a venue near you - I’m glad to have you along for the ride.
I am Steve Tilt.
